Just Stop and Think

Last night I came across this quote by Francis Chan, “Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” Warren Wiersbe once called these accomplishments “miserable success.” I can think of several times in my life I have focused on accomplishing things that really didn’t matter when looking at the bigger picture.

I wanted to find more about Francis Chan’s quote, so after a short search I came across a wonderful video titled, “Just Stop and Think.” It talks about what really matters in life. In fact, it talks about the most important thing we can do in this life.  Would you please give me fifteen minutes of your time and watch this video. It is a simple message that you won’t regret watching. If you watch it and are honest, it can help you focus on what really matters in this life. Manna From Heaven

In John 6 we read about the feeding of the five thousand. After the miracle the people want to force Jesus to be their king. Before they can approach Him, he sends the disciples across the sea back to Capernaum,dismisses the crowd, and then He departs to the mountain to pray.

In the next section the crowd begins to question Jesus as to what sign He will give them to prove that He is the Messiah. His feeding the five thousand was incredible, but Moses had given their fathers manna from heaven. Jesus immediately gets their attention by declaring “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger…” (6.35). Jesus tells them He is the true manna from heaven, that they must believe in Him, and that this Bread is the only way to have eternal life.

Today we will be comparing Jesus, the Bread of life, with the manna given to the Israelites during their wilderness wanderings. Please join us at Living Oaks Baptist Church as we worship together in fellowship, song, and the study of God’s word. I hope to see you at 10:45 a.m.

The Resurrection Facts

As Christians we are to be growing in our understanding of Scripture. There are those who would challenge even the most basic of our beliefs such as the resurrection of Jesus. Without a firm foundation of doctrinal truths we will never be able to defend our faith. For years William Lane Craig has been one of the leading defenders of Christian faith. His work as found on Reasonable Faith has helped “to train Christians to state and defend Christian truth claims with greater effectiveness.”

With Easter rapidly approaching, I believe his article “The Resurrection of Jesus” is a great tool to help us express the truth of Jesus’ resurrection as fact and not just the opinion of Christians.

Sometimes You Just Need a Crutch

Recovering from a broken leg is never easy. The first few days after surgery to screw my leg back together proved challenging in trying to deal with the pain. Because of a simple mistake I had to endure horrible pain after my nerve block wore off (See yesterday’s post, “Never Blocks Don’t Last Forever!”). By the end of the second day my pain was back under control and I was ready to begin physical therapy and get back to a normal life.
